This page contains instructions on how to install or upgrade your PelROOT distribution. Please be aware that not all versions are released for all the supported operating systems because I try to release a new distribution as soon as I fix some bug and sometimes many of the fixes or improvements affect only one of the distribution. Please follow the instructions for the corresponding operating system you want to install PelROOT.
Instructions for LINUX distributions
Because of the many different Linux distributions in the market, we do not include ROOT in the PelTools package.
Be logged as root to install or update the PelROOT for Linux
If you are just updating the PelROOT libraries, skip step #1 in the installation instructions
Installation
- Download The ROOT distribution form the http://root.cern.ch/root/Availability.html
- Do not download the source file. Download a pre-compiled version of root. Try to match one of the distributions with the Linux version of your system
- Do not gunzip and untar the root distribution package. This will be done automatically during the installation process.
- Download the correct version for installation from the release page. The software is distributed as a tar.gz file.
- Open a shell terminal, cd to the directory where the tar.gz is saved and type
gzip -d [FILENAME].tar.gz
tar -xvf [FILENAME].tar
cd PelTools
./install (or ./update if you just want to update the library)
- Follow the instructions on the screen
